Issue 01 · Meet the legend

Zach.
The blue-eyed boss of the neighborhood.

He has the intelligence of a professor, the energy of a personal trainer and the social calendar of a celebrity.

Our first legendary cover star. Known simply as Zach—or Zacharias.

Some dogs quietly enter your life. Zacharias arrived as if the universe had ordered a magnificent white Border Collie, added two unforgettable blue eyes, painted a dramatic dark marking around one of them—and then accidentally pressed the “maximum personality” button.

Known simply as Zach, he is a neutered male Border Collie weighing approximately 28 kilograms. However, numbers cannot adequately describe him. Zach is 28 kilograms of intelligence, beauty, affection, enthusiasm and the firm belief that every person he sees has been waiting all day to meet him.

Zach’s owner is Christoffel Sneijders, a coach, author and founder of 3 Brains Intelligence™. Christoffel’s work explores how our head, heart and gut influence our decisions, emotions and behavior.

Then he goes home to Zach—who apparently uses all three simultaneously, especially when snacks are involved.

Christoffel helps people understand human behavior. Zach specializes in making humans behave exactly as he wants.

The Most Social Border Collie in the World

If there were an international competition for sociability, Zach would enter, greet all the judges, charm the audience and leave with the trophy before anyone else understood what had happened.

There is a small café downstairs from his home, and Zach is already an established local personality. People recognize him, greet him and are genuinely happy when he appears. Naturally, Zach returns their enthusiasm. To him, the café is not simply a café—it is his second office, social club and unofficial fan-meeting location.

He approaches people with the confidence of someone who has never considered the possibility that they might not adore him. The remarkable thing is that he is usually correct. Everybody loves Zach.

His appearance helps. Zach has a beautiful, predominantly white coat, bright blue eyes and a distinctive dark patch surrounding one eye. His pink-and-black spotted nose completes a face that looks as though nature spent extra time on the details.

When Christoffel walks with him, people regularly stop and ask to take photographs. Blue-eyed Hollywood stars would be jealous. It is possible that Zach is the reincarnation of a legendary movie actor, although it is equally possible that he simply knows his angles.

Either way, he is always ready for his close-up.

Beautiful, Brilliant and Slightly Busy

Zach is a true Border Collie, which means his body may be resting while his brain is reorganizing the universe.

He is active, curious and extremely intelligent. He wants to know where everybody is, what they are doing, why they are doing it and whether it might involve him. Preferably, it should involve him.

Christoffel’s girlfriend jokes that she now has two versions of him in the house. Both Christoffel and Zach are social, energetic and always prepared for the next adventure. Christoffel insists that he is not quite as hyperactive as Zach, but the comparison continues to be made—probably with good reason.

Fortunately, Zach’s impressive energy is supported by equally impressive training. His family worked with two professional dog trainers, investing time, patience and consistency in his education. The result is a dog who is not only beautiful and intelligent but also exceptionally well trained.

With Christoffel, Zach walks calmly without pulling and can walk off leash where it is safe and permitted. Their communication looks almost effortless. Other people occasionally discover that he does not listen to them quite as perfectly.

Christoffel has a simple explanation: education, training and relationship.

In other words, Zach understands the instructions. He is simply reviewing who submitted the request.

Head, Heart, Gut—and Treats

There is something especially fitting about the creator of 3 Brains Intelligence sharing his life with a Border Collie.

Christoffel’s work explores the relationship between the head, heart and gut. In a playful way, Zach seems to embody this idea: his head analyzes every situation, his heart leads him toward people and his gut tells him exactly where food is located.

Together, Christoffel and Zach have built a bond that goes far beyond obedience. It is based on trust, familiarity and the thousands of small moments that create a genuine partnership.

Christoffel says they could recognize each other in complete darkness. Zach knows his voice, movements, moods and routines. Sometimes, when Christoffel calls him, Zach turns around trying to locate exactly where the voice came from. It is a wonderfully funny reminder that even a highly intelligent dog can experience a brief technical difficulty.

The system usually reconnects quickly—particularly if the word “food” is mentioned.

Playing is serious business. Sleeping requires dedication. Eating is an event. Attention is not optional.

The Loyal White Shadow

Christoffel calls Zach his “sticker” because wherever Christoffel goes, Zach sticks to him.

When Christoffel moves, Zach moves. If he changes rooms, Zach follows. When he goes outside, Zach wants to accompany him. Personal space may exist as a concept, but Zach has not found sufficient evidence to support it.

This loyalty is what makes their relationship so special. Zach may be friendly with everyone, but Christoffel is his person. He is his guide, companion and best friend—the center of Zach’s wonderfully busy world.

For all his intelligence and energy, Zach’s personal philosophy remains refreshingly uncomplicated. His favorite activities are playing, sleeping, eating and receiving attention. He is highly accomplished in all four disciplines.

Playing is serious business. Sleeping requires dedication. Eating is an event. Attention is not optional.

Beneath his dramatic appearance and Border Collie intensity, however, Zach is simply a sweetie pie. He is affectionate, gentle and happiest when surrounded by people. Strangers may first notice his extraordinary eyes, but they remember the warmth and joy behind them.

A Truly Legendary Pet

Zacharias—Zach to his family and growing circle of admirers—is more than a beautiful dog and more than a well-trained companion. He is a neighborhood celebrity, a café regular, a four-legged philosopher and a devoted best friend.

He reminds us that intelligence is not only about solving problems. Sometimes it is knowing when someone needs company. Love is not always expressed through words. Sometimes it is a white shadow following you from room to room, making certain that you never face life alone.

Christoffel’s work encourages people to explore the relationship between their head, heart and gut. Zach brings his own contribution to the family philosophy: use your head to learn, your heart to love, your gut to locate the treats—and always stay close to your favorite human.

That is not merely clever.

That is legendary.
